Frequently Asked Questions
Ingredients and allergens
Are Big Sky mints gluten free?
Yes. Every Big Sky line is gluten free: Big Sky Mints, Sunkist Sours, Good Time Natural Mints, Citrus Delights, Clawhammer Mints, Cocoa Delights, Ginger Delights and Sugar Shack. They're made in our own facility in Toronto with no shared equipment, so there's no cross contact with gluten.
Which flavors are sugar free, and what are they sweetened with?
Big Sky Mints and Sunkist Sours are sugar free. They're sweetened with sorbitol and sucralose. Our other lines (Good Time, Citrus Delights, Clawhammer, Cocoa Delights, Ginger Delights and Sugar Shack) are made with cane sugar. None of our products contain aspartame, xylitol or stevia.
Are Big Sky mints kosher?
Yes. Every line is certified kosher by the Orthodox Union (OU).
Are they halal?
We don't hold a halal certification. There are no animal-derived ingredients in any of our products.
Are they vegan?
Yes. Every line is vegan. There are no animal ingredients, and the calcium stearate we use is vegetable source.
Do they contain nuts, dairy or soy?
No. Our mints and candy are nut free, peanut free, dairy free and soy free, and they're made in our own facility with no shared equipment.
Are they organic or natural?
All our flavours are natural flavours, with no artificial colours or sweeteners, and our products are non-GMO. We no longer make an organic line. Good Time Natural Mints used to be sold as Good Time Organic Mints, so you may still see the older tins in some stores.
How many calories are in a tin?
About 4 calories per piece, across every line. A cane sugar piece has about 1 g of sugar. A 30-count tin is about 120 calories and a 50-count tin about 200.
Where are Big Sky mints made?
In our own facility in Toronto, Canada. Ingredients are sourced in North America. Big Sky Brands has been independently owned and making mints since 1999.
Good to know
Are Big Sky mints bad for you?
They're candy, so enjoy them like candy. Each piece is about 4 calories. The sugar-free lines are sweetened with sorbitol, a sugar alcohol, which can have a laxative effect if you eat a lot at once, so go easy.
Are they safe for kids?
Yes, they're candy. Hard mints are a choking hazard for small children, as with any hard candy.
Are they dangerous for dogs?
Our products contain no xylitol, the sweetener that's toxic to dogs. They're still not dog treats, so keep tins out of reach.
Are Big Sky mints discontinued?
No. We've been making them in Toronto since 1999 and the lineup keeps growing. The newest flavours are Wildberry Mix, Cherry Cola, Deep Freeze and Dill Pickle. If you've found an old tin, the design has changed over the years but the mints are still here.
How long do they keep?
Best within 24 months of the date printed on the tin. Keep them somewhere cool and dry.
What flavours do you make, and how many mints are in a tin?
Eight lines and over forty flavours. Big Sky Mints and Sunkist Sours come 50 to a tin, Good Time 40 to a tin, and Citrus Delights, Clawhammer, Cocoa Delights, Ginger Delights and Sugar Shack 30 to a tin. Retail packs are a 6-pack of one flavour ($18) or a 12-pack ($36).
